I'm unsure where the exact inspiration came from, but at some point in 2013 I decided that one day I would open a boutique curated with handmade goods that I collected from artisans from around the world. In 2014 I visited Cuba on my own for the first time and purchased the first handmade items for the store of my dreams.
In March 2022, while traveling in Florida with my parents, I stumbled upon a purse that was so unique that I could not leave without it. I knew that it was not something I would wear myself, but that I could offer it to someone else for their own adornment. And so, my idea for a store expanded to include my love of vintage and I started daydreaming about opening the store sooner rather than later. Over the past year I've gathered a small collection of beautiful objects and the day has finally come to share them with the world!
During this past year I also started inquiring about a shop that my grandmother opened in the 1970's in Detroit, MI. Little did I know, however, how closely I am following in her footsteps. 'Victoria Trading Company' specialized in 'furs, imports, and unusual trappings' and not only did I inherit her exquisite taste for beautiful antiques, but also her love of supporting talented artisans.
'Victoria Trading Company', now domiciled in New Orleans, LA, is an online boutique with select in-person pop-ups. Each item in this collection has been hand-selected with immense care in what I now know to be the legacy of my Grandmother Victoria. I give thanks for her indelible taste, her love for the arts and her bravery in starting the company that I now have the honor of stewarding.
